Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 5, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Vote2Give ("Vote2Give," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares personal information when you use vote2give.com and related services (the "Service"). It should be read together with our Terms of Service.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account information: your name, email address, and login credentials when you create an account. Sign-in is handled by our authentication provider, Clerk.
- Donation information: your name, email address, donation amount, the campaign you gave to, how you cast your votes, and whether you chose to receive email updates.
- Payment information: card and billing details are entered directly with our payment processor, Stripe. We receive limited information such as payment status, amount, and the last four digits and brand of your card. We do not receive or store full card numbers.
- Organization information: organization name, description, website, logo, campaign content, and the names and emails of team members. Stripe collects identity, tax, and bank account details from Organizations directly during payout onboarding.
- Communications: messages you send to us, such as support requests, and any messages you post on campaign pages where that feature is enabled.
Information collected automatically
- Usage and device data: IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, and timestamps, collected in server logs and by our hosting provider.
- Error diagnostics: technical details about errors and performance, used to find and fix problems.
- Cookies and local storage: we use cookies that are necessary to keep you signed in and secure the Service, and your browser's local storage to remember things like votes you have selected but not yet checked out. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking for ads.
2. How we use information
- Provide, operate, and maintain the Service;
- Process donations, apply votes, transfer funds to Organizations, and handle refunds and disputes;
- Send receipts, account notices, and other transactional emails;
- Send news about Vote2Give, if you opted in to receive it;
- Respond to support requests;
- Detect, prevent, and investigate fraud, abuse, and security incidents;
- Understand usage and improve the Service;
- Comply with legal, tax, and accounting obligations and enforce our Terms.
3. How information is shared
With the Organizations you support
When you donate, the Organization running the campaign can see your name, email address, donation amount, and how you voted, so it can thank you and keep its records. The Organization can also see whether you opted in to updates from it; if you did, it may email you about its work and future campaigns. Organizations use this information under their own privacy practices, and we are not responsible for how they use it. Public campaign pages and leaderboards show vote totals for each option, not individual donors' names or emails.
With service providers
We share information with vendors who process it on our behalf to run the Service:
- Stripe — payment processing and payouts
- Clerk — account sign-in and authentication
- Vercel — website hosting and file storage
- Neon — database hosting
- Resend — transactional email
- Ably — real-time leaderboard updates
- Sentry — error monitoring
For legal reasons and business transfers
We may disclose information if required by law or legal process, to protect the rights, property, or safety of Vote2Give, our users, or others, or to investigate fraud. If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
We do not sell personal information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for targeted advertising.
4. Data retention
We keep personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. We keep donation and payment records for as long as needed to meet tax, accounting, and legal requirements and to resolve disputes, even after an account is closed. When information is no longer needed, we delete or de-identify it.
5. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect personal information, including encryption in transit. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we learn of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you as required by law.
6. Your choices and rights
You can view and update your account information and manage saved payment methods from your account page at any time. Depending on where you live, including under the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act and similar state laws, you may have the right to:
- Confirm whether we process your personal information and access it;
- Correct inaccurate personal information;
- Delete personal information;
- Get a copy of your personal information in a portable format; and
- Opt out of the sale of personal information, targeted advertising, or certain profiling (we do not engage in these activities).
To make a request, email support@vote2give.com. We will verify your identity before responding and will respond within the time required by law, generally 45 days. You may use an authorized agent where the law allows. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights. If we decline your request, you may appeal by replying to our decision with the subject line "Privacy Appeal"; we will respond to appeals within 60 days. If your appeal is denied, you may contact the Texas Attorney General or the attorney general in your state.
Some information may be retained after a deletion request where we are required or permitted by law to keep it, such as donation records. To remove your information from an Organization's records, contact that Organization directly.
When you donate, you can choose to receive email updates from the Organization, from Vote2Give, or both. Both choices are optional and start unchecked, and we record your choice and when you made it. Every marketing email from Vote2Give includes an unsubscribe link, or you can email us to opt out. To stop updates from an Organization, use the unsubscribe link in its emails or contact it directly. Receipts and other transactional emails are sent either way.
7. Children's privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Accounts and donations require users to be at least 18. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
8. Data location
Vote2Give is based in the United States, and information is stored and processed in the United States. If you use the Service from outside the U.S., you understand that your information will be transferred to and processed in the U.S.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you by email or through the Service.
